 What is a Computer:-

Computer is a man made machine in which task the instruction from the user process and provide the                desired result as out put .that is called Computer.

Computer is an electronic machine which can solve our arithmetical and logical type problem  that is called computer.

Mini computer is a medium size general purpose computer .it is grater than micro computer and smaller than main frame computer in size.It is used for processing in small organization and LAN servers.

*Main frame computer:-

Main frame computer is the high storage capacity and high speed. It is used for the data processing long organization and as nods well in WAN servers.

*Supper computer.

Supper computer is the most fastest, expensive and most power full Computer weather for casting, Bio-Medical research and weapon design.

Analogue Computer:- The machine which perform task in the system of

Speed acceleration wheel or wave is known as analogue Computer.

 For Example:- Radio , Telephone etc.

Digital Computer: – The machine which performs task in the number is

known as digital Computer. For Example:- Calculator

Hybrid Computer:- The machine which perform task the both analogue

and digital system is known as hybrid Computer. For Example:- Aero plane

            The storage capacity of computer is expressed in bytes.

Hard ware:- The All physical part of computer. Which can be seen and  touched is known as hard ware. It is just the machine of the Computer.

     Three types of hard ware

  1. Input device
  2. Processing device
  3. Out put device 
  1. Input device:- Input device are used to give instruction to the computer.

           –  key board

           –  Mouse

           –  Digital camera  

           –  CD ROM

           –  Light pen

           –  Scanner

           -Touch screen

2.  processing device:- processing device are used to process the input data to designed  out put is called  processing unit . CPU is a processing unit

              It contains three units.

  1. Airthmetical and logical unit(ALU)
    1. Control unit (CU)
    1. Memory unit(MU)
  1. Airthmetical and logical unit(ALU):- The unit that perform mathematical and logical  order instruction given by input unit is known as Arithmetical and logical unit.

2. Control unit (CU):- The unit that control  all the computer including input or out put is called control unit .this    unit sends the input data for Execution valuated units as the input instruction if user gives data to save CU reminds disk to save is user order is print the data. 

3.   Memory unit (MU) :-  The unit that is used to operate computer store data for future use in memory.  we can   store data temprorary and permanents.

               Two types of Memory unit (MU)

  1. primary units
  2. secondary units
  1. Primary units:- The memory which is used to run any application and other various routines as well as to store temporary and data called primary memory.
    1. RAM (Random Access Memory)
    1. ROM(Read Only Memory)

a)  RAM:-   It is store data temprorary before we save the data to the storage device. When computer is on but when computer turn off it loss all the data. So it is also known volatiles memory.

b)  ROM:-  It is a memory that one store data cant be change removed or add. But can be record. So it is also known non volatile memory.   

  • Secondary Memory:-  The memory which is used to store computer software  for future used known as secondary memory.

There are many secondary memories.

*  Hard disk:- Hard disk is a also power full storage device then others. It is fixed to computer case with pains and it is                                            not problem device .hard disk can be found in different  storage capacity in a market  40GB, 60GB, 80GB, 120GB, 160GB, 180GB, 250 GB,300 GB and So on…

*  Floppy disk:- floppy disk is a portable storage device .it is small in size chef and easy to use .it can storage 1.44 MB data.

*  Compact disk:- Compact disk is round shaped portable storage device  that can be store 600MB to 800MB data. It needs compact disk drive to be used several types of compact disk drive can be fount in the market.

*Gip disk:- Gip disk is a portable storage device. Like floppy which can store 100 to 200 MB data.

Software:-  A set of instructions is well defined manner is called a program .and one or more program in well defined manner is called software.

                Two types of software

             1.)  System software

             2.)  Application software

1.) System software:-  A software required for running user programs is

 known as system software.

                b) Utility software

                c) Compiler software

a) O/S software (operating system software) :-Operating system software

is program which control over all operation activities Language of the computer .

it is a main point between the computer and operator for the example:-

 b) Utility software:- A software used for mange files and folder working

with files and folder drives and testing program is known as utility software

  for Example:- Anti-virus ..

c) Compiler software: – A soft ware that convert the computer language in

to machine language in to computer language is known as compiler

software for Example:-  c language …c++ language…

2) Application software:- A software written for special or specific purpose

 is known as application software. It needs O/S software to run for

 example:- MS-Word , MS-Excel, MS- page maker etc…………….

What is operating system?

A computer system consists of hardware and software. hardware like the system unit. which does all of the processing the key board. Through which one enters the data and commands: the display screen; the printer; the disk drive are the very important parts of a computer system. the hardware cannot do anything without software control. Software provides the instruction that tell the hardware exactly what to do.

In general, an operating system is program that provides an interface between the user, the application program, and the computer. It control input to the computer and output from the computer. The operating system act as a link between user and the computer hardware.  Ultimately a computer system works using binary signal. Actually an operating system hides the complexities of the user. The operating system means that you do not have to work directly with binary arithmetic.

MS DOS (Disk Operating system)

                  MS DOS:- Microsoft disk operating system. Ms dos is operating program. It is developed by Microsoft   Company of America in 81and designed for a very old CPU like intel80x86. It is used to operate the computer. So it helps user to create new file by name and save or store data, create directories, copy files or directory from one drive ot another drive.

             There are two kinds of Ms-Dos

  1. Internal dos command                     
  2. External dos command  

1. Internal dos command: – Internal dos commands are pre-loaded in your memory (RAM) when you switch on a DOS-based computer. They are actually located inside the file called command.

                   Example: Date, time, cls, copy con, type, dir, Ren, Del, copy etc…..

2.External command: – Those commands are made of file that are held on the disk and

loaded in to the your  computer memory (RAM) only as and when required. It is called external command             

                         Example: – edit, attrib, delete, sys, mem,  move, etc….

How to open dos command.

  • Click on start button     
  • Click on run or you will get a dialogue box shown below.
  • Type command or type cmd in run box
  • Click on ok or Enter key.
  • Ms dos will be display on the screen.
  • Type  cd \ enter button

            Not :- c= alphabetical

                       : = colon

                      \ = back space

                     >  = grater than

How to exit front dos prompt.

  • C:\> exit    enter button

Date command: – this command is used to set & display the date.

Syntax:-  date                      DD-mm-YY  press enter button

            Example:  date                     14-10-2008   press enter button

               How to see date

Note:- if user want to change the current date one should type first dd(date) then mm (month) and (YY) year. For example:-  How to see date.

Time command: – By using this command we can set & display the time.

Syntax: – time                   HH:MM:SS   press enter button

Exam: – time                   6:50:55  press enter button

          How to see current time

   C :\> Time enter (to display current time)

Note:- if user want to change the current time one should type first hour then minute and second with microsecond. Example:- 7:52:55:55

Cls: – It helps to clear the screen.

Syntax: –    c:\>  cls  press enter button

Exam: –      c:\>  cls  press enter button

Copy con command:-This command is called create file .it is used to store data. Particular drive.

 Syntax: – copy                  con                  file name. Extension name enter button then

Type our massage F6 enter

Exam: copy                con                    samir. Sha   press enter button then

Samir is a boy.f6 enter

Type command:-This command used to display created the massage or file.

Syntax: – Type                  created file name enter button

Exam: –    Type                     samir. Sha enter button

Ren command:- It is used to change the file name of create file without changing its massage contained in file.

Syntax:- c:\> ren                old file name                new file name  (press  enter button)

Example:- c:\>  ren                samir                   pravaker    (press enter button )

Del command:- This command is used to unnecessary file are deleted from computer.

 Syntax:- c:\> del                 file name  (press enter button)

Example :- c:\> del                 Arman  (press enter button)

Ver command:- It is used to show the version of the operating system.

            C:\> ver  (press enter button)

                        Dir command

Dir command:-This command is used to display files directory data, time and bytes.

1)  c:\>  dir              samir.sha  press enter button (to display only samir name )

2)  c:\>  dir                 c: press enter button  (to display all name list of c:)

3)  c:\> dir/p   press enter button (to display all name list of c drive page by page)

4) c:\> dir/ah  press enter button (to display only hidden name list)

5) c:\>  dir/a   press enter button ( to display hidden and unhidden list name )

6) c :\>  dir/ar  press enter button ( to display only reading name list )

7) c:\>  dir/as  press enter button (to display system file name)

8) c:\>  dir/w press enter button (to display all name list in width )

9) C :/> dir              c: /o: n/p press enter button (to display all name list of in ascending order)

10) C :/> dir            c: /o:-n/p press enter button (to display all name list of in descending order)

11) C :\> dir              * .kc press enter button (to display all name list having extension .kc)

12) c :\> dir                 samir.* press enter button  (to display all name  list having name  samir)

# Copy command: – by using this command we can copy file name one drive to another drive.

Syntax:  copy                   source drive                target drive (press enter button)

 Exam: c :/> copy                c: samir.sha                D:    (press enter button)

    Result: – now the massage of samir will be transfer in to D:

# Md: –  we can create new directory.

Syntax: md               new directory name (press enter button)

Exam: c :/> md                 Nepal (press enter button)

#Rd command:-  It helps to remove or delete empty directory.

Syntax: –    Rd                   directory name (press enter button)

 Exam: –    c :\> Rd                  Nepal (press enter button)

  Note: – Nepal directory will be delete.

# Cd command :- It helps to this command we can open created directory.

Syntax: –  cd              directory name (press enter button)

Exam: c :/> cd              Nepal (press enter button)

            C :/> Nepal>

# Cd… command: –  it helps to close the directory one by one.

Syntax: – c :/> directory name> cd…..or cd (press enter button)

Exam:  c :/> Nepal >cd…. (Press enter button)

External command

Edit command: it is used to simple type of document, such as latter, easy, any official document. It is also crate new file, copy text massage, save file or modify the massage.

How to open edit command

Syntax: – c:\> edit (press enter button)

Process the menu bar

File menu

Save document: – It is used to save the data or document.

Click on file menu 

Click on save           } ctrl +s

 Type file name exam: ram in dialog box (note: you will get a dialog box)   

 Click on ok box.

 Close: – It is use to close the document.

 Click on file menu

 Click close box     }ctrl +w

Save as: – It is used to save the data another file name.

 Open your file or document

 Click file menu

 Click on save as (ctrl+5)

 Type another file name  box exam. Ram (Note:- you will get a open dialog box)

 Click on ok box.

Open document: – It is used to open the data.

 Click on file menu

 Click on  open  option (ctrl+O) {Note:- you will get a open dialog box.)

 Type your file name, or choose file name. exam:  Ram

 Click on ok box

New:-  To arrange a new screen.

 Click file menu {ctrl+N)

 Click on new

Print:- It helps to print the data.

Click on file menu {ctrl+N)

Click on print option .

You will get a open print dialog box.

Click on ok box

Exit:- This option used to exit from the edit command.

a) Click on file.

Cut :-  To cut the latter.

 Block the text which you want to cut

Click on edit menu

Click on cut option

Copy text: – To make duplicate text. Or this option used to copy the text of the document.

  • Block the text which you want to copy
  • Click  on  edit menu
  • Click  on copy  text           ] ctrl +c
  • Choose the cursor position where you want to copy.
  • Click  on edit menu
  • Click paste  option      ] ctrl +v

Clear: – To clear the text or data.

  • Block the text which you want to clear
  • Click on edit  menu
  • Click on clear option

Search menu

Find text:- To find the word or text.

  • Place the cursor  start of text
  • Click search menu
  • Click find text    ]   ctrl +f
  • You will get a find dialog box.
  • Type  word or text in find what box exam :Ram
  • Click on ok

Note: you get your text on the highlight.

Repeat last find:- This option is used to repeat the last find.

 Click on search menu

 Click on repeat last find

 You get your last find text on the highlight.

Replace: – To change find word in another word required text.

  • Place the cursor  start of text
  • Click search menu
  • Click  on replace
  • Type  required word find what box exam:-  boy
  • Type change  word in replace with box   exam :- girl
  • Click on replace box

Option menu

Setting:-   It helps to set tab key.

– Click on option menu

– Click on setting

– Type setting tab example:- 8

– Click on ok box

Colours:- It helps to set the latter color and back ground colour.

– Click on option menu

– Click on colour

– Set the color which you want to colour

– Click on ok box

Attrib:- It used to make file or directory hidden and unhidden read only and  directory system.

             How to make hidden file?

Syntax:- c:\> attrib               +H               file name (press enter button)

  Exam:= c:\> attrib                 +H                millan  (press enter button)

How to make unhidden file?

Exam:= c:\> attrib              -H              millan   (press enter button)

How to make read only file?

Syntax:=   c:\> attrib                +R                file name  (press enter button)

Exam:=     c:\>  attrib               +R                 millan   (press enter button)

How to make unread only files?

Syntax:= c:\> attrib                -R               file name   (press enter button)

Move command: – Which is used to move file one drive in to another drive one by one.

Xcopy: – This command used to copy sub directory all it files one the target directory except main directory.

syntex : – c:\> xcopy             file name              address, name or place  (press enter button)

examp : – c:\> xcopy              ram                d: parkas  (press enter button)

Deltree:-  This command is used to delete directory and its sub directories or files once.

Syntax:-  c:\> deltree               directory name  (press enter button)

example:-  c:\> deltree               Nepal   (press enter button)

How to change the themes option.

  • Click on right button on the free desktop area.
  • Click on properties
  • Click on themes option
  • Select the themes option in themes list box from the position of drop down list.
  • Click on apply box
  • Click on ok button or enter button.

How to change the desktop option.

  • Click on right button on the free desktop area.
  • Click on properties
  • Click on desktop option
  • Select the properties option in background from the position of drop down list.
  • Click on ok button or enter button.

How to set the screen sever option.

  • Click on right button on the free desktop area.
  • Click on properties
  • Click on screen sever option
  • Select the any one screen sever option in screen sever box from the position of drop down list.
  • Click on apply box.

How to change the desktop colour.

  • Click on right button on the free desktop area.
  • Click on properties

  • Select the choice colour in schemes colour from the position of drop down list.

File             :-      File is a collection (stores) our data.

                             File is a collection of information data.

Folder        : –      Folder is collection (stores) our File.

Text           :-       Action of the file the not read is to text.

How to create new file folder.

  • Right click on free desktop area.
  • Click on new option
  • Click on folder option
  • Click Type file name example : samir
  •  Press enter button

How to rename file or folder.

  • Click on right button on the file or folder
  • Select rename option 
  • Type new file name example:-  pravaker
  •  Press enter button

 How to copy file or folder.

  • Click on right button on the file or folder that you want to copy
  • Click on copy
  • Right click on free desktop area
  • Click on paste

How to moving file and folder.

  • Click on file and folder that you want to move. Exam Right, Left, up, down.

How to change folder icon figure.

  • Click on right button icon figure
  • Click on properties option
  • Click on customize option
  • Click on change I con box
  • Choose any on Icon figure
  • Click on ok

How to delete file and folder.

  • Select the file and folder that you want to delete
  • press delete key
  • press “ y ” key  for yes

  • Click on look in box and choose all hard drive

  • Click on right button on the free desktop area

How to restore deleted file and folder recycle been.

  • Double Click on the recycle been
  • Select on file and folder . which you won’t to restore.
  • Right click on file or folder figure
  • Click on restore option

How to change mouse pointer sign.

  • Click on start button
  • Click on setting option
  • Click on control penal  option
  • Double click on mouse figure

Calculator:- The calculator accessories allows you to perform simple math metical as well as complex static and scientific calculation .It use to same way simple calculation, among other futures ,allow you to convert from decimal, to hexadecimal and binary etc.

How to open calculator.

  • Click on start bar
  • Click on program
  • Click on Accessories option
  • Click on calculator option

  • Click on start bar
  • Click on run

Note:- It will be display run box dialog box.

  • Type calc
  • Click on ok or enter button

NOTEPAD

Notepad:-  Notepad is a simple software editor program. it is also windows branch. it is used to create simple document, simple write a latter and also make a bio-data. It is same as word pad.

                                    Extension name    .txt

How to open Notepad.

–    Click on start bar

  • Click on program
  • Click on Accessories option
  • Click on notepad option  

Or

  • Click on start bar
  • Click on run

Note:- It will be display run dialog box.

  • Type notepad
  • Click on ok or enter button

Save document :- It is used to save the data.

  • Type the massage on the screen
  • Click on file menu 
  •  Click on save           }ctrl +s
  • It will be display save dialogue box.
  • Type file name and choose drive name exam: d: ram          
  • Click on save box

Save as:- It is used to save the data another file name.

  • Open your  file or document , type your massage

Open document: – It is used to open the data.

New:  To arrange a new screen.

  • Click file menu
  • Click on new option

Page setup: – To set  paper size, and margin

         or orientation.

  • Open your file, document or type your text.
  • Click  on  file menu
  • Click on page setup
  • It will be display page setup dialogue box.
  • Click on margin and choose paper margin size
  • Click  on  ok

Note: – if you want to proof paper size and margin than see print preview

Print :- It helps to print the data.

Undo text: –   It used to recall delete text.

  • Click on replace box

What is MS-Paint?

Paint is a application software program. Is a developed by micro soft company of America. It helps to drew image or any picture drawings. It can use the tool bar.

How to open the MS-Paint.

Click on start menu

Click on run

It will be display Run dialogue box.

Type on pbrush in Run dialogue box.

Click on ok or press enter button

Tool bar:-  It is tool bar contains a set of button that allows a user to work faster by clicking on a button that is symbolic of a specific command.

Status bar:- It is  a viable at the button of the screen .it display details of the document like page number, total number of page ,line number, column number etc….

Vertical scroll bar:- It is used to move the document up and down.

Horizontal:- It is used to move the document left and right .

Drawing toolbar:- It enables a user to select various drawing option for document.

Cursor Movement

The cursor is moved by using the following keys from Keyboard.

Page setup                            :- One page up.

Page down                            :- Go to page down.

up arrow                                 :- Move one line up

Down arrow                           :- Move one line down.

Left arrow                              :- Move one character left.

Right Arrow                           :- Move one character Right

End key                                  :- Move End of line.
